A real fashionista will definitely want to go behind the scenes of the fashion industry, to follow up trends or the success of marketing campaigns, to read more about the rivalries between the world’s most famous designers. Why she will do that? Because she will transcend the ultimate character of the book, feeling a part of the story, of the history even.
There are tons of books one could read about Fashion Industry, but there are 5 of those who really outstand all expectations. I’ll let you discover them and I highly recommend them to you all.
1. Coco Chanel: A Biography by Axel Madsen

Everybody speaks Chanel language and we all have at least one item that proves that. But not everyone knows who was in fact Gabrielle Chanel, the house’s legendary namesake founder. Born as an illegitimate second child, after her mother’s death she and her sisters were sent to an orphanage. She  began as a kept woman making hats for her lover’s other mistresses and went on to become fashion’s greatest career woman. Axel Madsen tells Chanel’s story in this exquisite biography.
2. Pantone: The Twentieth Century in Color by Leatrice Eiseman, Keith Recker

Longtime Pantone collaborators and color gurus Leatrice Eiseman and Keith Recker identify more than 200 touchstone works of art, products, to reveal the trends, radical shifts, and resurgences of various hues. As the authors admit in the introduction, the book does not describe only the colors and trends, but also provides fascinating snapshots of events, people, trends, all underlined by the colors that surrounds them. It’s a very important statement of the changes in color palettes over the decades.
3. Marketing Fashion: Portfolio Series by Harriet Posner

This book is a practical guide to the fundamental principles of marketing and branding, from catwalk to price calculation, developing brand identity to creating a customer profile. For those who study fashion industry is a very important tool to begin with, but also for those working in the retail sector. There are a lot of concepts in this book from haute couture to mass market segment. It also teaches you how to market your product.
4. Tales from the Back Row: An Outsider’s View from Inside the Fashion Industry by Amy Odell

This is a very good way to go behind the scenes and read about fashion from someone who is not part of that world, and to see how a non-fashion person feels in this sector. It’s easy and funny to read, because you can relate to the story, the events and you can put yourself in her shoes to see what it would be like … and Amy Odell gives you the right answers.

5. The beautiful fall: fashion, genius, and glorious excess in 1970s Paris by Alicia Drake

If you are passionate about discovering more about Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, about their life and their rivalries, this is the best book to understand the glorious period the Parisian Fashion Industry encountered in 1970s. The book is constructed for a historical and political point of view to provide a deeper understanding of the industry and its personalities.

More about the books that inspires me, that hep me become a better me, a better professional you can find out about on my Goodreads account.
