The Fashion Trend Report for 2016 is out for all the Fashionistas.

You know that tee-shirt, that a lot of men are currently wearing, saying “I don’t need Google, I have my wife”? Well, if men don’t need Google, women sure do, especially Fashionistas all over the word. And here’s the thing, Google is very helpful and friendly giving u every year a complete report on Fashion Trends. This week, they’ve released their second-annual FASHION TRENDS 2016 report, which analyzes search trends to outline which specific items are on the rise or decline in the U.S. and U.K. market. Smart Google, thank you. You wonder how they did it? Here’s their own statement about the process:

WE PULLED TOP VOLUME QUERIES RELATED TO THE APPAREL CATEGORY AND LOOKED AT THEIR MONTHLY VOLUME FROM MAY 2014 TO MAY 2016. WE FIRST REMOVED ANY SEASONAL EFFECT, AND THEN MEASURED THE YEAR-OVER-YEAR GROWTH, VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION FOR EACH SEARCH QUERY. BASED ON THESE METRICS, WE WERE ABLE TO CLASSIFY THE QUERIES INTO SIMILAR TREND PATTERNS. WE THEN CURATED THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TRENDS TO ILLUSTRATE INTERESTING SHIFTS IN BEHAVIOR.

Google then curated its results into 6 CATEGORIES, three for those trends that are on the up-and-up and three that encompass those in decline, as shown below:

1. THE MUST-HAVE IN YOUR CLOSET
Here are the Risers – the apparels you ought to have in your closet to help you build an edgy, trendsetter look.

 
Sustained risers: Steady growth over past years; these trends are safe bets.

Biker pants
Ripped jeans

Seasonal risers: Seasonal trends that are likely to come back even stronger.

Kimono dress
Romper
Coatigan
Shirt dress
Boho dress (U.S. only)

Rising stars: Sudden growth within the past months, thou rumors that  these trends might not last.

Off-the-shoulder top
Bodysuit
Lace-up top (U.S. only)
Bralette
Dashiki dress

2. THE MUST-THROW-AWAY FROM YOUR CLOSET

 
Sustained decliners: Clearly decline over the past years; these trends are fading out.

Drop-crotch pants
See-through clothes
Acid-wash jeans
Baby-doll dresses

Seasonal decliners: Seasonal trends that are likely to decrease in demand every year.

Asymmetrical skirt
Waist trainer
Maxi shirt (U.S. only)

Falling stars: Fads that have reached their peak and have already started to decline rapidly.

MILITARY CHIC




BOMBER JACKET - preferred in black leather in both countries


David Beckham was highly associated with this trend in the U.K. in March 2015.
Gigi Hadid had the highest association with bomber jacket searches in the U.K. at the beginning of 2016.
 
Kanye West and Kim tops the charts as the celebrity most associated with the bomber jacket in the U.S.
Gigi Hadid has been associated with the trend in the U.S. only recently starting in December 2015— similar to her association in the U.K.



Off-the-shoulder Trend - white lace with floral patterns in the U.S. vs. black striped lace in the U.K.




The off-shoulder look has been associated with celebrities in the U.K. starting with Jenna Coleman in June 2015. Most recently, Kylie Jenner and Alexa Chung have been most associated with the trend.
While Kendall and Kylie Jenner had the highest level of association with the start of the trend in 2015 in the U.S., Olivia Palermo took over the trend starting April 2016. Michelle Obama was already associated with the off-shoulder trend in 2013.


COMMON BEHAVIORS SHOWN BY THE REPORT


Children are dressing like grown ups, and vice versa.
Consumers are searching for items by occasion or activity.
Top trends are being adapted to fit consumer needs.
